Less then 2 weeks till my next marathon! Am I ready? eh...
I wanted to write about a few thought provoking things in this blog, but I think sometimes we need to not be so thought provoking and more factual or story telling. I am going to title these types of posts training logs.
So what did my week look like last week.
Mon and Tuesday: 0. Actually, it was -33.
The forecast is an igloo...
The mid-west hit a cold snap like I have never seen, or remembered at least, and there was no way that I was getting outside to run. Some people said they did, not I; I am not that hardcore. Combine it with that 36 mph gusts you see there, you have GOT to be kidding...
But in true Ohio fashion, the cold snap ended and a few days later it was in the 40s, which is above average for January. So,
Wednesday - 6.2 in the evening.
Thursday - 3.4 - this was supposed to be longer but my sister and I decided to hit the trails which were literally covered with a sheet layer of ice. So we ran around in circles for a little while trying to decide what to do, hit the country road to get in a moderately good run, then went and drank beer. Seemed like a better option.
Friday night I went out for a 10 and made it 8.2. I got a little... bored I guess. I really wasn't feeling the run from the moment I stepped out the door but with my lack of miles in the beginning of the week I had to get something in somehow.
Saturday I met up with a running friend and we did 20 on the trails. There was no desire in my sole to run 20 miles that morning. Probably because my training plan for this marathon has consisted of 2 months of nothing over 10, then a 16, then a few weeks later a 20. So needles to say it was a difficult 20. Also, I had never done 20 on the trails and while some in the more elevated parts of the world may scoff at our little hills, to the 0 elevation world that I frequent around my neighborhood, times were hard my friend. I very reluctantly finished with a fair amount of whining and a sloth like pace that may have convinced my running buddy to loose my phone number, but the 20 is in the books and my trail experience has grown a little stronger.
On Sunday I whole heartedly had the intentions of running 10. I really wanted to hit 47+ for the week since the highest I have gone in the past few months is 45 a few weeks prior. I knew that it would be hard, but man was I determined. I hit the first mile alright but once I turned the corner and faced a headwind my already exhausted body and apparently seriously dehydrated self was done. I managed to slog a relentless 3.2 and was happy to call it a day.
Despite not hitting my goal of 47, I made it past 40. I'm not going to lie, that is a good and difficult "feet" for me. I don't have a lot of weeks over 30-35 to be honest and most of my weeks hover around 25-30. This is something I am working on changing, as I am hoping to start hitting 50 on a regular basis.
Negative from the week- The weather for one really hindered my training. If I could have just gotten in 1 more run at the beginning of the week and got a little more in on my thursday I would have hit my goal no problem.
Positive from the week - Not only did I get in my 20 but I did it 12 hours after a hard 8. I think this put my legs ahead of the mileage game, and made me stronger then if I would have rested the night before.
Goals for next week- 6 days of running
