I like to weigh myself everyday. There are a lot of different 'rules' about weighing yourself out there. A lot of people say that you should only weigh yourself once a week, some people say dont weigh yourself at all, let your clothes judge how you feel. But most people, like me, have a strong desire to know what that number on the scale is. Why!? I dont know, I just do.
One thing that you should NOT do is weigh yourself more then once a day. When you live life, consuming food and beverages, your body adds the weight of that food and drink. Everybody naturally weighs 3-5 lbs more in the evening then they do in the morning. It does not mean that weight is permenant. It means that you have infact been alive today.
Why do I like to weigh myself everyday instead of once a week?
I feel like weighing myself once a week is like walking around with blinders on. Yes, I know that if I eat ice cream everynight I'll probably add a little lbs by the end of the week, so I know not to do that and to try to eat as well as I can and exercise daily. But I have no desire to go about my business and then step on the scale and be shocked that I have somehow gained 2 lbs. If im not held accountable, I am more likely to stray.
I am not consistantly loosing weight. I am at a weight where I have been stuck for years. It is a healthy weight, but I have a strong desire to loose about 5 lbs. For some reason for me it is very hard to loose a lb, and very easy to gain a lb with where I am at. Weighing myself every day helps keep me in check, and it helps me think about what I do or dont need to do that day. For instance, if I step on the scale and my weight has gone up 1.5 lbs from yesterday (it does that more then I would like, even from eating well the day before) I know that I am going to want to pay special attention to what I eat that day. I DO NOT DIET (I suck at it, ive accepted it) But on a day where my weight has gone up a little, weather its due to water weight, alcohol the night before, my body rebelling, whatever it is, I will do little things to my diet that day. This usually involves cutting out cheese, eating more veggies, cutting back on bread, and choosing fruit for dessert. I will also make sure I get in a cardio workout for the day (nothing crazy, just make sure I actually do it). Where on a day where I step on the scale and things have either stayed the same or gone down a lb or so (again, happens a lot) I will eat the way I normally do. I eat healthy daily, so ill stick to that, and ill excercise only if it is on my schedule to do that day. No, I wont eat junk and bail on exercise, but I know that I dont need to do anything extra that day for my body, unless I WANT to.
So I choose to weigh...everyday!
