Columbus marathon, Bean Walk 2012, circleville pupmkin fest

Man it was a weekend for us! It's been a while since our weekend was so packed since my husband usually ends up working one of the two days, which leaves me and my son home and car-less on that day. But this weekend he had both Saturday and Sunday off, AND he didn't close Friday night (which would result in him getting home at 3am) so we were able to make plans for Saturday morning! I don't know if it was a good or bad thing, but the world seemed to make a million plans for this weekend also. However, the 3rd weekend in October HAS always been one of my favorite weekends of the year, so I was glad we were super productive.

Our weekend included Abraham's family's Halloween party Friday night, the Lake Hope bean walk Saturday morning, the Circleville pumpkin festival Saturday evening and the Columbus Marathon (as volunteers!) Sunday morning. We also had planned to go to a concert at a local church Sunday night, but by the time we sat down to eat lunch after the race we were D-E-A-D tired. So we skipped out on that one.

The Halloween party was a lot of fun. It is very kid oriented and there were a ton of games and sugar for the kids. Corbin had a blast and said the cake walk was his favorite. He picked out a plate of HUGE caramel apples to take home. (We have yet to eat them cause we have been so busy! I wonder how long they last.) We got home around midnight on Friday and all promptly fell asleep after reading the book Frog Wars together.

We were up and at em' on Sat around 7:30 and I made us pancakes! and we headed out of the house at 9. We picked up Angela and baby Scarlett for the walk and after a stop for supplies at Kroger (the biggest bag of trail mix ever) we headed down south. It rained a lot on the way down. We ended up being way too late for the beans, so we walked around the lake for a few hours and the weather was on and off really cold and rainy, and really nice when the sun came out. I was impressed on how far we got with a 5 year old, a 2 year old and a pregnant lady.

We headed straight over to the pumpkin festival after the walk. I'm pretty sure it as grown 10x bigger then it did from last year and over 75% of it was fair food vendors. The weather ended up getting a lot nicer, and then a lot colder. It was a chilly evening and the festival got way crowded as the night grew on. We bought hot cider/chocolate, got pumpkin fudge, and split 2 pieces of pumpkin pie. I got 6 pie pumpkins to take home. It was a really fun time. Scarlett and Corbin each went on one ride, and Corbin chose the airplanes that went up and in circles. He enjoyed it, but negotiated well about how he was going to go on the jumpy trampoline things next year.

We got home around 9 and made dinner and rented a movie. Abraham and I were both passed out half way through the movie and decided to turn it off and finish it on Sunday. Whoops.

Corbin was excited we let him ride a ride

World's largest pumpkin pie. I think they feed it to pigs after the festival.

Corbin and Scarlett "sharing" a piece of pie. Only 1 small piece fell on the ground this year.

Tower-o-punkins!

And then the marathon. We woke up a little late, like 8ish I think, and made some bagels and headed down to the race. We ended up parking right next to our stop and walking over getting there just after 9. Our job was to pour water/gatorade and pass it out to the runners, we were posted at mile 24 so we would only see the marathon runners, not the 1/2 runners. It was CHILLY in the morning, but the sun was bright so as the day went on the weather got really nice. Corbin did awesome and entertained himself the whole time with his toys, or cheering on the runners. We stayed till about 1pm and the runners had thinned out so much we became useless so we left. Again, I made lunch and then promptly passed out for a nap. I can't believe I had made it through all of that!

The weather was great that evening and I went for a 3.2 miler before dinner at a 9:33 pace! Fastest time in a long time and felt great doing it. Definitely couldn't have held that pace for too much more distance, but will try it again on another short run. I guess I was inspired by all the runners! Finished my running week out at 4 days, 18 miles.
