Feeling like a Nike commercial

Lets talk about my favorite subject, and the subject of this blog.

Running.

Man I love to talk about running, and I love to run; but talking about it takes so much less effort doesn't it!

I have been night running lately. When I say night, I mean pre-dinner, but since we are pushing up on the shortest day of the year, a 5:30 pm run is pitch black. But we are also pushing up on Christmas, which makes dark time running so beautiful.

Everything about running in the winter is beautiful. It's not that I enjoy frost bite, but I would much rather have rosey cheeks from the cold air then from a mild form of heat exhaustion and sunburn. I would much rather run in freezing temps any day then ever run in anything over 75 degrees.

But there is so much more to winter running. It's quite. It like you are keeping a secret while you run. Everything is so clear and the air is so crisp.

Its hard sometimes to get out there, as it always is with running, but every time you get out there in the winter magic happens.

Last night I went out for an easy 4 miler. It started to snow as soon as I walked out the door. Not just a little bit of snow either, it dumped on me so hard when I was running into it I had to close my eyes which is a little unnerving when you are trying to dodge cars and ice as well. The wind was blowing so hard in my face it took my breath away and I pulled my neck cover over my mouth with one hand so I could breath as I karate chopped the snow with the other hand in attempts to clear a path.

But then I would turn around and the wind would be against my back and I would open my eyes and look up. Like Forrest Gump when the rain stopped. The crisp sky was filled with big white snowflakes, swirling all around me in the sky and then covering every inch of earth as it fell. The strong wind gave me a push as I ran into the snow filled air, making me stronger and faster. The world felt magical and I felt invincible. As I looked down at my shadow on the grey pavement of the street, and saw my quick gait and my blowing hair, I couldn't help but feel like I belonged in a nike commercial.

Ok, this may not have been what my run looked like, but it felt like it.
