HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I have started to (read: been thinking about for the past 8 months) my running schedule for 2013. 2012 was lacking compared to previous years due to being pregnant for the past 6 months, but I did get a few solid races in including a marathon but next year I have big plans. BIG!
Ogden half marathon - Saturday May 25th ($40)
I think that this is the soonest I could get in a half. This is with 2 weeks off with no running after my due date (crossing fingers for an early delivery, and then just over 12 weeks for training)
Goal- 2:18 (10 minute mile)
The last chipped half I ran was a 2:15, about 3 year ago. I couldn't attest to other run's I have done or what my half times were during my marathons, but this is the goal. My time has been improving lately, and with some solid work I know I can do it. The only thing that will stop me is how long it takes me to recover post baby.
Lake Health half marathon - Sunday June 16th ($35)
If things don't go as planned, or even if they do, I would like to try for this local race as well. If I can manage to run this one feeling back in the swing of things post pregnancy with no complications, then I'll go into marathon training. This will put me at exactly 20 weeks till the Columbus full.
Goal- 1:57 (9 minute mile)
Then of course there is the Columbus Marathon - Sunday October 20 ($75)
This is a race that I have always wanted to do and yet have never been able to either from being injured, or not having the funds on other years, or being pregnant in 2012, it has always passed me by. But this year is my year! Right? Mainly because I am planning ahead, and can't run a marathon prior to this (the fall season in general) so it seems like a great fit.
My goal for this race you ask?
3:56-3:59 (a 9 minute mile)
This is an outrageous goal figuring it is like, 45 minutes faster then my last marathon, but it would put me at a 9 minute mile for 26.2 miles and I can run a 9 minute mile... for a few miles :)
(I'm gonna be honest, I would be COMPLETELY happy with a 4:22, a 10 minute mile pace, but we are talking goals here)
Boston qualifying times for my age is 3:35. Now that sounds crazy.
But let's face it. I have never taken my training as serious as I should. I am a lazy runner.
Yes, runners can be very lazy people. My husband constantly makes fun of me that I can run 15 miles, but then I complain about walking to the fridge.
For my last marathon I ran 2-3x a week. I always got in my long runs so I was fine to run the distance, and I was teaching about 10 hours of classes a week, so I was in great shape, but that kind of training will put you no where near the speed you want if if doesn't come natural to you. So ultimately I was running just to run, not for any real goal.
That is where my biggest New Years running resolution comes into play. I plan to take my running much much more seriously this year. I am educated enough, trained enough, and mentally ready to do so. I have been running for enough years to know what it means to be a serious runner.
Resolution 1: To become a morning runner. I'm not a morning runner by any means. I run whenever it is convenient for me to do so that day (but life isn't convenient is it). I am good at being a morning person, but not a morning runner. I can wake up and start my day fine, but the few times I have ran first thing, I have dragged booty and didn't enjoy it much.
Quit when it's hard, that's the motto right?
Day light savings hits March 10th. I am due Feb 20th, so even in the unfortunate event that I deliver on my due date (crossing fingers its earlier!) That will give me about 3 weeks to figure things out. That is the latest I wish to start running again but I would like to start back at 2 weeks. (I know this sounds early, but my body is trained and I have stayed in shape throughout my pregnancy. So assuming no real problems during delivery this is a feasible goal) That way I can ease into the morning runs with a modest amount of light.
My goal is to be HOME by 7 AM mon-friday, and varying on my Sunday runs. (I am going to do my long runs Sunday's before church, not Saturday's)
I have many reasons for wanting to become a morning runner, but i'll talk about that in another post. I feel it is an important step to make.
Resolution 2: To stick to a training plan during training times. Again, never done this. I have always had a plan tacked up on my fridge but have always followed it loosely, aiming for the long runs to be the most important thing, and varying on everything else. I have studied about every training plan there is and know the rhymes and reasons for them in and out (like... PR'ing on a marathon!) But I haven't stuck to it.
Fartleak's... tempo runs... recovery runs...
This year, your mine.
What are your goals for 2013? Races? PR's? Fitness?
Oh... and a 6 pack would be nice this year.
