Happy February 1st! Yep. It's Friday, it's sunny, and it's about as cold as Antarctica outside. Sarcasm?
Just barely.
So let's talk about the weather because well, everyone loves talking about the weather. Especially in Ohio cause the weather is CRAZY!! There is a picture going around on facebook from the Ohioans
Yes, this is totally Ohio. It's always been a weird state that exists in some sort of weather vortex that makes seasons obsolete. For the most part, its cold in the winter, and hot in the summer. Lately, REALLY hot in the summer, but this week we practically had winter AND summer in just a matter of days.
On Tuesday and Wednesday it was 60+ (PLUS) degrees outside... at the end of January.
All day yesterday we had white out snow conditions 10 min off, 10 min on, 10 min off... ect. It was dumb.
This morning I opted to take my son to school by car, which we never do, because it was -11 windchill outside at 745 in the morning. Although our car has no heat, so its not like it made too much of a difference.
BUT I LOVE IT!
I have lived in places where every day you woke up and it was cold as dickens, (Wisconsin in the winter!) and I have lived in places where the temp never drops below 90, even at night (middle east anyone?). The weather is consistently good or consistently bad, but it is always consistent. If it is consistently bad, that gets pretty old fast of course. When you have to walk outside everyday and freeze your nose hairs and toes off you develop a tendency to yell "I just want ONE DAY where it isn't so freaking cold!" And when it is consistently good, usually we just become complacent and stop taking advantage of the day's beauty. We have all had those days where we sit inside and look out the window at the sun because we know yes, it will be there tomorrow. And that is just annoying.
But Ohio keeps you on your toes. It gives you that 60 degree break in the middle of an ice storm. It gives you that one day of snow in the beginning of May that makes you wonder if you planted your seeds to early. (Don't worry, they'll live) It makes us have something to look forward to when things become stagnant and boring, allowing us a break in the dropping temperatures where it is warm enough to take our kids to the park in t-shirts in November.
And what's not to love about that!
I love Ohio weather, and I couldn't see living in a place where it was happy ALL the time, or cold ALL the time, or sunny ALL the time, or rainy ALL the time. (Poor Seattle) Because there has to be some sort of balance in life of days off and days on, and our crazy Ohio weather helps keep us in check.
Besides, if the weather wasn't so dramatic what would we have to complain about! You all know how much us Ohioans love to complain about the weather!!
Sometimes all it takes is a little bit of planning.
This kids got the right idea. Layers.
What is your favorite kind of weather?
